PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU RESERVE A PLACE:
We are a very hospitable family of four. In this homestay, we make profit AND exchange valuable experiences – so remember that profit is not the ultimate goal that we care for. We ARE NOT a hotel where you expect to pay the money and do whatever suits your needs at the expense of our resources (both mental and material).
Since my brother and I (the fluent English speakers in the house) are currently abroad, my Mother will be your host for most of the year. Despite her limited English, she is a very graceful and amiable person who LOVES to introduce you to Vietnamese cultures (mainly through cooking or offering you food, etc.) However, there have been instances in the past where our entire family has been put into really uncomfortable situation by the lack of thoughtfulness from the visitors (over-demanding requests, lack of hygene, lack of gratitude, etc.) I do not want to list all of the negative experiences, for in the past we also have had absolutely AMAZING guests – a big shout out to you guys if you are reading this! Still, being far away from home, it is heart-breaking to see my parents having to cope with these negative experiences without us being able to physically do anything.
So, the point is: please ONLY BOOK if you are looking for a Vietnamese home-like experience, and have basic manners when it comes to gratefulness and politeness (and hygene, if that’s not too much to ask for).
Do NOT EVEN consider booking if:
– You lack the basic manners mentioned above.
– You expect we provide luxurious hotel-like services (ACs can be on all day, water is limitless, online orders pick-up, etc.). While we do ensure that you have the most comfortable stay with basic amenities, we also aim for sustainability and responsible consumption.
– You are going to take everything that we do for granted. While we do A LOT of things for you upon your request, it is not because it is a part of our service, it is because our family is genuinely hospitable and would like to assist you as much as possible during your stay (for many of you, it’s your first time visiting Vietnam). So if you find my Mom offering you snacks, fruits, drinks, or even an entire meal, it is not because that’s what she’s supposed to do, it’s because she wants to make you feel welcomed like home. If you find my Dad taking you around on a mottorbike, it’s because he’s trying to save you time, or make sure that you don’t get lost. These kind of raw and unpolished hospitality cannot be bought with money (you can book a hotel for that), so do show some minimum gratitude (whether it is through your verbal thank-yous or reviews, etc.)
This is not to discourage you from booking, but rather to clarify our expectations as a caring and sympathetic host. If you are still not let down reading until here, please don’t hesitate to book for a true homestay experience in the heart of Hanoi
**Please note that you need to climb the stairs as the room is in 2nd floor of a 5-storey house**
